Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine graduated its first class of DVMs in 1963. Since then, the school has produced nearly 2,000 veterinarians. This college is the only veterinary medicine school in Indiana, and besides the classrooms it offers a teaching hospital, equine sports medicine center, the PetSafe program and Peace of Mind program.

Students attending the 4-year, DVM program study the normal biology’s, sciences, and chemistry, plus they take part in research efforts and other fields of study including spinal injuries, infectious diseases, neuroscience, oncology, herd management, production medicine, animal welfare, equine sports medicine and flow cytometry.

Educational Requirements

Students who wish to attend this school must complete 2-3 years of required course work in order to be eligible to apply to the DVM program. Required courses must be passed with a “C” grade or better. Non-residents must prove a GPA of 3.0 or better and residents must average a 2.0.
